WPS EVENTS FOR 2012

Hello,
I would
like to invite you to attend
Garden Expo
which will be held from February 10-12 at the Alliant Energy Center
which is located at 1919 Alliant Energy Way- Madison, WI 53706.
If
you are interested in attending- I will be
I’ll be presenting a
presentation titled “What’s New with
Peonies” at 2:00 pm in the Waubesa/Kegonsa room on Saturday- February 11.
At 4:00
pm on Saturday- I will be performing a demonstration on
“How to Divide Peonies” at Demo
Stage A.
On
Sunday- February 12, I’ll be performing a demonstration on
“How to Divide Peonies” at Demo
Stage A- for those who missed it on Saturday.
In
addition, the American Peony Society, APS, and Wisconsin Peony Society, WPS,
will have a booth at
numbers
1119 &1207 (located by Demo Stage A)
at which
books on peonies,
peony seeds and
9 different varieties of peony roots
will be for sale to raise money for APS and WPS.
In addition, we will be signing up new members for both organizations.
One can find no better
entertainment which is informative, educational and practical all at the same
time for so little money.

Wisconsin Peony Society Winter Educational Meeting
The Wisconsin Peony Society will be holding a winter educational meeting on Saturday- March 10, 2012 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison West Madison Agricultural Research Station which is located at 8502 Mineral Point Road in Verona, WI 53593. The WPS business meeting will start at 12:30 pm and it will be followed a presentation by Roy Klehm. Roy, a world renowned plants man and hybridizer and the owner of Klehm’s Song Sparrow Farm & Nursery, will be presenting a presentation titled “Down Peony Lane”. His presentation will feature a number of real life stories about peony hybridizers that he’s has met and some of his experiences with them. In additional, Roy will share some of the knowledge that he has acquired over a lifetime. This is one presentation that you will not want to miss.
Each year WPS sponsors garden and/or nursery tour(s) for the enjoyment of its members.
In 2012 WPS is sponsoring two tours and luncheon cook outs.
Please contact Scott Parker at oldtooltrader@centurytel.net to reserve a space and your lunch(s) for either or both WPS sponsored tours. There is no cost for WPS members for either of the luncheon cook outs- we just ask that you bring a dish to pass!
The 1st will be at Solaris Farms
on May 26, 2012 at 10:00 am. Nate
Bremer, Owner of Solaris Farms, has invited the members of WPS to tour of his
gardens and fields which are loaded with peonies, tree peonies, and various
other perennials. Attendees should
look forward to seeing the blooms of a number of tree peonies and advanced
generation hybrid peonies that were created by Bill Seidl and Nate.
Don’t miss out on your chance to see some of the newest and best tree
peony and herbaceous peony creations.
The 2nd tour will be at Parker’s Peony and
Perennial Farm on June 16, 2012 at 10:00 am.
The tour will feature late season hybrids and lactifloria’s.
The gardens feature over 600 varieties of herbaceous peonies, over 50
varieties tree peonies, over 10 varieties intersectional hybrids and a selection
of species peonies too. In
addition, several hundred of my peony seedlings- both tree and herbaceous,
should be in bloom- some for the 1st time.
I can guarantee you that it will take you a number of hours to see
everything.

Semi-double white Jap. tree peony. Pollen parent. Shintenchi Seed parent. Rocks Variety. First bloomed 1989. First divided - grafted. Height 32-36". Large white blooms, semi-double with purple flares. Strong large plant with good form. Looks much like a double Rocks Variety.
In August WPS will be holding a Workshop on Grafting Tree Peonies for its members!
